Volunteer Spotlight

December - Linda

This is Linda! Linda started with Love Sews Ministry just about a year ago. Linda has a long history of crafting and sewing many things other than quilts! Her favorite job at Love Sews so far is sandwiching the beautiful quilt tops so they are ready for the top-stitchers.

Originally from Indiana, Linda and her husband Doyle of 51 years, moved to Holland from Illinois in 1982, where they raised their 4 children. They now have 8 grandchildren who keep her very busy!

When not at Love Sews, you can find Linda running to all kinds of events for her grandchildren and providing care for one of her sons.

November - Deb

Welcome Deb! Deb has been with Love Sews Ministry for only about 4 weeks. She has come every time she has been available since the first day she came through our door! Deb loves to sew and was able to complete this quilt top in one session!

Together with her husband of 17 years, they have 5 children and are expecting their 10th grandchild very soon!

Deb has recently retired. Besides sewing, Deb enjoys reading,  camping, and being "dog momma" to Izzy, Elly, and Charli.

October - Ann

Meet Ann! Ann has been with us at Love Sews for about 4 months now. She has been a regular since the first day she walked in the door! Ann is still learning the way we do many things in the quilt process, but so far, piecing the quilt tops is the job she does most often.

Ann has six children in several states and five grandchildren.

When not at Love Sews Ministry, Ann helps run another non-profit. She enjoys biking and skiing, both downhill and cross-country.

She considers Love Sews to be her "Happy Place".

September - Cyndi

This is Cyndi! She has been with Love Sews Ministry since the very beginning! Her favorite job is putting on the bindings for us, and she does beautiful work!

Cyndi has been married to Randy for 50 years. They have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. She is originally from Garden City, Michigan but a resident of Holland since 1982.

Outside of Love Sews, Cyndi is an administrative assistant. She enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles in her spare time.

August - Julie

Julie has been a Love Sews volunteer for the past year and a half. She came to us after having received one of our personalized quilts as she was battling cancer.

Julie is a life long Holland area resident. She and her husband have 7 children between them and 7 grandchildren.

Julie does many jobs at Love Sews sews, but her favorite job is binding. Two of her sisters, Jeanne and Jaci, have also been Love Sews volunteers in the past.

When Julie isn't at Love Sews, she enjoys all things gardening, making other crafty items and spending time with family.

July - Donna

Meet Donna! Donna started volunteering with Loves Sews about 4 months ago. She is relatively new to Holland, only living here these past 7 years. Donna is originally from Edgerton, MN and moved to Holland from Grand Rapids where she raised her family.

Donna enjoys the community of fellow kind-hearted, caring people, who just happen to love sewing as much as they love Jesus here at Love Sews! Donna's favorite job is to put on bindings for our quilts.

Donna is married to Ted. They have 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

June - Mary

Meet Mary! She is a life long resident of Holland. Mary has been coming to Love Sews Ministry since it first began in 2013.

Mary's favorite job at Love Sews is piecing quilt tops and seeing all the different colors blend together into a beautiful masterpiece.

Mary has two children, 4 grandchildren, and twin great-grandchildren! In her spare time she enjoys baking, sewing, and making crafts for craft shows.

May - Kristy

Meet Kristy! She has been at Love Sews for 4 years now. She enjoys the comradery of fellow "Love Sewers" and being able to help people in extremely difficult times.

Kristy grew up in South Haven, MI and moved to Holland after College to pursue her career. She now works for a title agency here in Holland.

When Kristy is not at Love Sews or work, she enjoys spending time with her furry best friend, her dog, Piper Grace, a golden retriever that just turned 1 year old. She also loves spending time with friends and family.

April - Beth

Beth started coming to Love Sews Ministry after the birth of her daughter, almost 5 years ago. Her favorite job at Love Sews is making the quilts beautiful with her top stitching.

Beth is a busy mom of two. When asked what she likes to do in her spare time, she said, "what's that?!" She does love to be outside and to read whenever the opportunity arises.

Beth is married to Ross and has lived in Holland for the past ten years. She is originally from Grand Rapids so Holland isn't too far from extended family.

March - Arlene

Arlene is our "Volunteer of the Month" for March 2018. Arlene joined Love Sews Ministry almost 5 years ago when it first started at her church.

Arlene does a variety of jobs for us like, ironing, picking out the individual materials that will be used on a quilt, and "filing" (that means re-ordering and putting away the leftover pieces of materials, so that we can use every bit of scrap that is big enough for another patch).

Arlene is no stranger to filing, in her spare time she also volunteers at 3 different libraries to file returned books. She also knits when time allows.

Arlene has spent her entire life in Holland. She has 2 children and 6 grandchildren.

February - Helen

Meet Helen! Helen is one of our outstanding volunteers. She attended Love sews more than 80 times this past year! Helen came to Love Sews Ministry about 3 years ago. She was invited by her daughter, Sally, who volunteered with us at the time.

Helen can do so many jobs at Love Sews, but her favorite is piecing. Often you will find Helen training another new volunteer. She really does have the "patients of a Saint"!

Helen's favorite thing about Love Sews Ministry is knowing that the quilts really do make a difference in the lives of those they touch.

Helen is married to Dave. They have 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grand children, (although the think all of them are pretty great!) In her "spare" time, Helen like to sew at home, too!

January - Suzy

Meet Suzy! Suzy is our first "Volunteer of the Month" for 2018. Suzy joined Love Sews Ministry 3 years ago having been invited by Grace, along with a few other women from her church. Suzy does many jobs at Love Sews, but the task she prefers is piecing the 8x10 quilts together.  Suzy favorite thing about Love Sews Ministry is our mission to bring comfort and joy to our quilt recipients.

When she is not at Love sews, Suzy enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and studying genealogy.

Suzy and her husband, Vince, have 4 children, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren with one more on the way!
