One less...

December 19, 2017

My heart is breaking as I write this post...the post I really don't want to write this time of year...

This season is a time when we gather as family to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There is so, so much joy in remembering what God has done for us at Christmas...He became flesh so he He could have every human experience and know, firsthand, what we live through...but for many of us...our human hearts don't want us to remember what He has done...we still can't wrap our minds around the present pain of facing Christmas this year with one less...

How do we go on? How do we survive this blessed season with one less...? One less place at the celebration table(s); one less stocking over the fireplace; one less present under the tree; one less helper with the Christmas cookies; one less adversary in the snowball fight; one less family member in the Christmas card photo...

I am reminded that a number of our Love Sews quilt recipients will not be with us this Christmas season. Reminded that we made so many quilts for someone who has lost a very dear loved one this year. My heart goes out to each family member as they process how they must navigate this time of year with their "one less"...

Too many recipients flood my thoughts as I write this post; and struggle with how to honor their memory...two beautiful young people, in particular who have lost their battle this past year, and a mom who lost her daughter. Read Sam's story here. Oh how my "mother's heart" breaks for these families who are one less right now...

Although I only met Luke on the day I delivered his quilt, the day after he had his right leg amputated just above the knee in an effort to stop his aggressive cancer in its tracks, I felt a connection...one that came from desperately praying for him as I worked on his quilt from Love Sews Ministry. This was 2 short years ago. His smile, attitude, and spirit reflected a faith that went beyond words... Luke went home to Jesus in September at the age of 17. He leaves his parents and two brothers and a long list of friends behind. Read more about Luke here.

One recipient that God continues to lay on my heart is Keyan. I first met Keyan when she was only about 4 1/2 months old, coming home from the NICU for the first time...this was nearly 14 years ago. I was blessed to be a "helper" with her family until she was six years old. This past summer Keyan flew home to be with Jesus. She was only 13 years old. I have no idea how her family; mom, dad, older brother, and 3 sisters (Keyan was a quadruplet) are going to get through this first Christmas without her... Keyan blessed every life that came in contact with hers... There are no words... Read more about Keyan here.

Would you please send up some extra prayers this season for the families who are "one less" this year at Christmas as you gather your family around you and celebrate? Would you also please consider helping Love Sews Ministry bring a little bit of comfort, strength,

and peace to other people who are struggling with life issues by wrapping them in their own "hug from Jesus" in the form of a quilt made for and prayed over just for them, by clicking the donate button below.
